On the Fourth of July while Grandma had all three of her grandchildren (old enough ones) wanting to help flip pancakes...this bead activity gave her the chance to cook with each one independently.
Mission: Make some bracelets using Fourth of July colors....many would think this is red, white, and blue...but we decided that all these beautiful color options show up in the fireworks!
I have found that using pipe cleaners are the best option for little fingers. They allow the child an easier threading tool and amazingly, the beads don't fall off as easily if they let go or lay it down and pick it up wrong. Pipe cleaners also tie off very easily by just threading it back and twisting it a few times. There is no fancy knot tying skills needed.
So next time you are at a craft store, pick up some beads and some pipe cleaner. Pour the beads on a cookie sheet or craft tray and you might find that boy or girl will sit for an extended time period making bracelets for many they love. Charley (7), Henry (4 1/2), and Morgan (3) probably worked on this for a good 45 minutes.
Even Sydney tried her hand at beading...with her daddy's help.

We love to do this too, I have many a bracelet in the house. And the great thing is you can reuse them, I have been known to unstring them (of course when the kiddo's aren't looking.)
Lately Maddy has been into using the stretchy string to make her own jewelry.
