reality check

Last week I didn't feel like myself.
I think it had a lot to do with the mid winter funk that usually settles on us Midwestern mamas this time of year.

As Dr. Seuss says,

"Too wet to go out (snowy in MN)
And too cold to play ball.
So we sat in the house.
We did nothing at all."

So this week I decided to shake the germ paranoia friend that sits on my shoulder whispering in my ear each morning, "You best stay home unless you want to have a house full of puke-ers."
And so Monday I took Syd and Henry to the gym daycare and got my sweat on in the afternoon when she wasn't napping for me.  They loved it.  I loved it.
On Tuesday we went sledding both in the morning and afternoon.
Tuesday night I escaped and attended a camera class.
And today Syd and I met friends, spur of the moment, at the mall indoor kid climbing park.  Syd was crazy happy going up and down the slides.  And I got to sit and talk to a mama friend for a bit.

The dishes have bugged me a bit this week because we fill the dishwasher and run it and still have a counter looking like this.  But, I feel happier, calmer, and more sane.

I really truly think...
finding a balance of getting out and staying in helps a stay at home mama feel like a human being.
Too many weeks of worrying about germs, the cold, on top of the short days...can impact one's sanity.
And when mama ain't happy, nobody is happy.

How are you keeping yourself sane this week?
What are you letting go of and what are you accomplishing?

I agree, we have to get out of the house or we start to drive each other crazy!

Keeping sane this week...escaped for tea and dessert with a girlfriend last night, that helped!

I always like to get out of the house, but then my kids aren't always wanting to, instead content to putter around the house. It is a balance to keep me sane.
I have let go of cleaning a bit but then it just gets to me and actually weighs me down. Dog hair doesn't bother me but dishes like that would drive me nutty. That isn't to say I don't have dishes currently on my counter cause that dishwasher hasn't figured out how to unload itself:)
