Screen Free Week...

So next week is National Screen Free Week ... or something like that. I am pondering what this could mean for our family. How we could participate.

There is a part of me that thinks...Let's go for it. NO TV, NO COMPUTER, NO CELLPHONE - besides phone calls. But I honestly think I would go nuts without emailing my mom and sister, reading inspiring blogs, blogging (my daily therapy), etc.

But I do think we could challenge ourselves to be TV free for a week. Then I ponder...should it just be the kids...we could sneak evening TV when they are in bed because to know that Modern Family is on but not watch would be painful. And does Tivo-ing things and catching up next week really count..because that means double the shows that following week.

So...what are your thoughts? Anyone want to join in on a NO TV week!?

I am seriously considering cutting out TV for our entire family from Mon-Friday. That includes adult TV in the evenings. Ed and I could enjoy a board game, read books, go to bed early, bake something together.

I would love to hear from anyone who would like to participate in NO TV week in honor of Screen Free Week.

Here is a link with some ideas to consider while you plan your time.

Hmmm...tough to do, but I suppose that's the point!

Go for it! Whenever we did that growing up we always loved the end results. We had to come up with other ways to entertain ourselves and each other and were bonded more as a family. And as for the adults you'll have a good opportunity to connect with your hubby more. So I say go for it.

I'd do it. There are only 2 shows I'd catch up on later: Survivor and Modern Family. If you do it-I'll do it. And no fair spending the time away from tv doing the computer. I dare you and Ed to do something and that will force Andy and I to too. (you're ideas are great, here are more: Get easter baskets ready for easter, paint eggs with the boys, enjoy a glass of wine on the couch-silent or talking, i dare ya-it will spark conversation somewhere along the line, take a bubble bath (alone or whatever) read, give foot massages, hire a babysitter and go to a movie (with syd? Not sure!), sit on the deck if the weather cooperates etc etc etc).

Sarah, I have a friend who does no tv,no computer etc. one night a week, she picks Tuesdays, they play board games, bake things, if the weather is nice they ride bikes or are just outside, i think it's a great ideal, if not a whole week, try one or two days a week.. and please let us all know how it goes.. That would NEVER work at my house. I don't care if the TV is on but hubby does. Even if we aren't watching it, he likes the noise. Plus we leave it on when we aren't home for the dogs. Do dogs count for a NO TV week??

I don't think I could live without either, seriously. When we are on vacation or somewhere here we are going to relax- no problem. But, the day to day, I couldn't do it.
