Pottery Painting Pizazz!

Last week we, me and the three kids, along with some good friends, spent the afternoon at a local paint your own pottery shop.   I have wanted to do this for a long time.  We were the only ones there so we were able to take our time and enjoy the afternoon.  I was nervous the boys would get their painting done in 5 minutes...because at home that is about how long it takes them to finish a picture.  But amazingly, they lasted over an hour.

On our drive there we talked about how fun it would be to paint their very own mug.  I was so glad because I am all about clutter lately and I was determined to have them make something they would love and use.  I also knew it was kind of an special outing - expensive.

The walls are lined with pottery choices.

This is calling my name.  I will return to do one all on my lonesome or with a friend or two!  You can even have wine while you paint if you have a little pottery painting party!

The boys got to take their time and pick colors.

Both were very serious and enthusiastic.

A sign of a true artist....when you can paint...without looking.

We had to leave the mugs there for the week to dry and then get fired in the kiln.  So we got them back on Thursday and these are the final products:

I would recommend this outing.  However, it is a little pricey.  I would recommend asking more questions before you start about the different options and ways you can decorate your mug.  We didn't learn until AFTER that they have stamps and stickers that would possibly help a smaller child decorate their mug.  I also think that a child could use a little brainstorming and planning time.  Maybe even a paper to draw out what they are thinking.  Even I would want to have an idea and plan.

Super Fun! We lived close to a place in TX and we did it a couple of times! I have always wanted to make a platter with my kids handprints on and turn them into flowers. Did you go to the place in Edinia?
