Rainy Day Reminders
Today the rain came down and the grass went from somewhat green to bright spring green! It is like magic. On rainy days I usually take my boys out to rescue worms (and I do this with them if we have little girls over too...why can't little girls help save the worms?). So today we all three put on our rainboots. Charley grabbed his cute frog umbrella and Henry borrowed my umbrella.
We walked the streets...and found no worms today! But we did find some puddles. The boys jumped, splashed, and Charley and I made up songs about the rain.
While walking along the curb...right there where Charley was jumping high...up there in the lower right hand picture, I realized how little he is. SO MUCH SMALLER THAN A GIGANTIC WHITE (I MEAN ALL WHITE) RECYCLING GARBAGE TRUCK. Yes, I am yelling. Yesterday on our little cul-de-sac of a road, a neighbor friend came around the corner (off another cul-de-sac) and was so busy texting that she ran smack into the backend of a recycyling truck that was stopped picking up garbage! The truck was enormous. It was white! It was stopped. And her little car was securly wedged underneath the backend of the truck. The gal who was driving was pregnant...and upset...I could tell as I drove past...probably between the ages of 18-22.
So today, as I slowly wandered the rainy street with my boys I realized...if she didn't see the massive recycling truck...she would NEVER have seen either of my little boys...or myself.
PUT DOWN YOUR PHONES! Don't let some silly little text or email....distract you for even a second. Because, I am guessing that the email or text or whatever, isn't life changing...but what it distracts you from doing safely....now that could change your life - and someone else's for forever.
I am glad that the young pregnant gal was okay, at least it looked like she was. And I hope that this little reminder that could have turned out sooooo much worse...will leave a more lasting impact on her life - more than the inconvience of a wrecked car or a bigger insurance payment. I know it will stay in my mind.

much to be grateful for!
I agree. I have stopped texting and have nearly stopped (I am really trying!) talking on the phone while I drive. You are right. NOTHING is that important..and if it is, pull over.
you are soooooo right about this one. I've been working from home for 9 years and there are so many times I've worked, did emails, sent msgs, and not paid any attention to them, the little moments, the funny things they said, etc. thank you for this post my friend. i needed to hear this.
Adorable pics- you are a fun mommy!
Scary...I admit I'm sometimes guilty of checking messages when I drive. I need to stop, though. There's nothing that is that important.
The whole texting and driving thing is so scary. It's so easy to get caught up in the distraction of the phone!
Adorable pictures, love the umbrella and rain boots.
You would think people would learn by now, right? Glad she's okay, but come on!!!
Great pics BTW!
I can't believe text while they drive. I don't think I could even do it b/c I'm a horrible texter.
Amen sistah!!
And there is nothing more fun than puddle jumping- cute boots!
couldn't agree more. very important to let go of the technology every once in a while! i have literally stopped texting while driving (even at stoplights) cold turkey this year and am loving it!

i know it's so scary. i have really tried hard not to check texts or text. but i do check at stop lights and so i should stop in general. i always yell at andy too if he texts when he's driving. scares me so much. ps about the worms-i can't believe you do that. eli and i won't be partaking in that. i can't stand the big, long fat ones. RR
Oh dear. That young woman must have been quite upset. So glad she didn't seem hurt.
