It. is. Time.

This morning Charley had a dentist appointment.  Henry and I sat and watched...I was nervous...I wanted him to get a good report - for himself and for me, his mama.  I hope that the teeth brushing skills we are instilling are good enough.  I don't know much about dental hygiene etc...but I have never had a cavity and Charley hasn't yet either!  Woo hoo!  I heard the dentist and hygenist murmur several time "Look at these beautiful teeth."  I know that a lot of it is heredity...probably all of it.  But I am still thrilled and proud.

As Henry and I sat there I thought about that lovely little green lifesaver up there in the picture.  It is Henry's first addiction.  It is a big one.  When he gets his hands on one of these his eyes get heavy and he just wants to curl up by me.  Love it.

It soothes him when he is hurt or unhappy.  So I decided to ask the dentist if he could peek at Henry's teeth to see if there as anything that would push us to end this addiction earlier than later.  Charley quit when he turned two.  Henry is 2 and 2 months and is still growing strong.  Lately I have noticed Henry's tongue thrusting out when he makes some sounds...something I know can come from nuk use.  The dentist took a quick look and assured me that asking him today was a very smart choice.  He recommended that we quit now...his two year molars haven't come in yet and it is very good to quit before they come in.  He also noticed some signs of nuk use from his teeth formation - AAHHHHHHH!  Freaking out!

So sadly, with a knot in my stomach, we left the dentist, knowing that we need to end this "ukkie" use.  So starting today folks - I AM VOWING TO ONLY USE IT AT SLEEP TIME!  and from there we will wean him from it.  We can do this.  He will survive!

It was probably the hardest thing we had to get through with Charley.  It took about a week.  But he did it and doesn't remember it.  Henry is becoming such a big boy.

IT. IS. TIME.

Good luck! I know that I need to take it away from my youngest, too. It's hard though!

It will probably be harder for you then it is for him. But isn't that always the case with motherhood? I'm sure you'll both do great!

It probably won't even be as hard as you think....or if it is just try to keep thinking positive! Good Luck I know it can be painstaking!

Oh Goodness! It's been a long long time ago but I still remember that it was a difficult adjustment to make! Wishing you all well in the transition!

Too bad they don't make a "patch" for that...it's so hard! We only use it at sleep time and it's going to be hard then too!

So sad. We took my son's pacifier away a couple of months before he turned three. His "paci teeth" moved back to normal position within six months or so. We had limited use to nap and bedtime when he turned two. Good luck!

At least it isn't his thumb! It took us over 7 months to break my daughter's thumb habit and I was RELIGIOUS about it. I even decided it was okay if she stopped taking daily naps as long as she stopped sucking her thumb. She was 3.

Her teeth had shifted, but since stopping they have all gone back to their rightful places.

GOOD LUCK!

My little guy had his at night till he was 3, and he is no worse for wear! You will be fine and if he still has it at night for a bit, don't sweat it!

Good luck! I was lucky, I guess, because our little man wasn't ever interested in it. His comfort is twirling my hair (kinda weird, huh?). Some days, I'd much rather he wanted the pacifier.

Way to go on checking with the dentist. I work in pediatrics and we see so many older children with tooth trouble because of prolonged pacifier and/or bottle use.

Good for you to check out at the dentist! Not enough parents would do that! I am a new follower from Friday Follow!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, my daughter still sucks her thumb. I've been trying to get her to quit for seven years.

I'm your new Follow Me Friday follower ...

Happy Friday!

My kids just went to the dentist the other day and he knew that my son sucks his thumb. Something I am really trying to stop but so hard!

Oh that is such a tough decision! I haven't taken my kids to the dentist because I'm too scared of what he'll say! How's the weaning going?
