From the kitchen window...

Dear Charley and Henry,

After you, Henry, woke up today from your afternoon nap...you were excited to head outside. I needed to get supper put together and in the oven so I told you, Charley, to head out back with Henry and keep an eye on him. I would be out soon. You both ran outside and I worked hard to quickly get dinner put together - one eye on the dinner operations and one eye on you two.

The two of you puttered about in the sandbox, slid down the slide, swung on your bellies, and the whole time you were chatting away. You were safe. You were kind.

I knew you were waiting for me to come out so that I could push you on the swings. And I was excited to go out and push you and catch up on your day.  Charley, you had arrived home from preschool and got busy playing - and then your playdate showed up to play and he got you - I didn't.

I started to feel guilty for not getting out there faster. Shouldn't I rush to take advantage of the pushing?...soon you will learn to pump and won't need me out there.

And yet, the times where I can stand back and watch the two of you be brothers...those are some of my favorite moments being your mother. It is when the quiet settles around me...when things stop, and I can take in your faces, your chitter chatter, the natural brotherly behaviors, your size, and innocence.

These days are flying by...and me rushing out to give you pushes would have been wonderful, but part of being a mom is letting you go, stepping back, and watching the amazing little beings you are becoming.   And boy do you both amaze me daily.

Love,
Your mama

sweet post. Way to notice and take hold of some of the moments in your growing boy's lives. It is those moments that make motherhood all the more wonderful!

I think it's sweet to be able to sit back and enjoy watching them content in their play like that!

When you were growing up, you began all of your letters with "How are you? I am fine." Someday your boys will tell you how fine they were. Love, Mom

Beautiful post...great reminder. My 3 girls are growing so fast it's almost frightening. I still thank God and my husband every day for allowing me to stay home the past 12 years, and home school...I haven't missed a thing, and I am grateful.

Love the post. I love the relationships of siblings and it is fun to just let them play and observe.

What a sweet leter to your boys! I love that my boys are getting old enough to play together without me interferring as much. And my oldest is getting a lot better at watching over the youngest while I am busy working on something too!

Stopping by via Friday Follow! Newest Follower!

What a cute blog post! I wrote a post the other day with a similar feel about what my kids will and won't remember and when their memories really start happening - they may not remember but I do...and I'm trying to take it all in and pay attention to what is important!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday follow, just became a new follower!

This such a sweet post. I love how youngest has a smaler truck and the oldest a bigger one, too cute! =)

It's so true that sometimes we don't take the time to just enjoy the moments. A lot of them have passed me by, but I try to stop and take them all in.

Have a great weekend!!

I know exactly how you feel. Our daughter will be nine in a few weeks and our older son is four. I can't still hold on to my son for a little longer but sometimes I feel like I have to finally let go of my daughter - just a little. :)

I can relate to this post. There are times, like dinner, where I want to jump in and play with my kids, but can't at the moment. But it also makes me proud that I can do what needs done and also see how well they are together.

Found you through Follow Friday and am now a follower.
