Destination Imagination 2011

It is a tough job to ponder and decide what to sign your child up for when it comes to extra-curricular activities.  I have just started experiencing the after school dilemma of signing Charley up for things and then dealing with the driving to drop him off and pick him up.  I have now experienced the impact it has on our dinner, our cozy evenings, and his brother and sister.  This year we signed Charley up for Destination Imagination...when I was growing up it was called Odyssey of the Mind.

In Kindergarten it involved writing and putting on a play.  He was a black widow spider.  I attended some of the practices and it seemed really nutty.  I didn't know what would happen at the actual performance.  But I was so proud of Charley and his group.  He said his line so loud and clear.  And their group, amazingly, came through and performed wonderfully.  It was cute.  They also had to go into a room and do an "instant challenge".  Their challenge was to cut out dinosaur parts and assemble a dinosaur in five minutes.  Then they had to go around and share what they named their dinosaur and a little more about their creature.

It was Sydney's first big trip away from home.  It took place in a small town about an hour away.  She did great.  We did great.  It was a fun morning.  I am pretty sure Charley will do it again next year.

Setting up the props.

Doing his thing:  "I am a black widow spider and I want to eat you!"

The instant Challenge

OOO!  Could it be..a half way decent picture taken by Ed.  He finds humor in taking terrible pictures of me.

Love it all and wonder what the instant challenge was?
