Just a wee sad.
My boys had green milk for breakfast (green water for Henry).
Lucky Charms was their main course.
I dropped Charley off at school.
He arrived home and got busy playing.
Later this afternoon we made shamrock shakes and shared them with friends. The discussion that occured while the shakes were being slurped up revolved around St. Patrick's Day. All the girls (because they were all neighbor girls) chattered on about the exciting things that happened in their classrooms...leprechaun hunts, messes left by the little green folk, treats, etc. Charley listened excitedly...and then he burst in...
My ears perked up - excited to hear him share his school experience (because like most boys his school day details come out in their own time). And this is what he shared with wide eyes and an excited voice,
"You know what! The leprechauns made a big mess in the classroom next to ours. Can you believe it?"
And there I sat, sad. Luckily he didn't get that nothing happened in his classroom - but in my heart - I was disappointed for the little guy. And off the group skipped to conduct their very own neighborhood leprechaun hunt. But to me the mama - I am just a wee bit sad.

Ah, man!! I can totally empathize with you. The same thing happens to my son, all the time. His teachers just aren't as clever as the counterpart classroom.
At least your son was excited for everyone else. That shows a good heart!
Sad... poor little guy!! You could always mess up his room... :)
Poor kid. At least you did some great things with him. I served my class green bagels and I tried to trick them with "magic green pudding", but my third graders are jaded.
Poor little guy! At least he has a great momma that makes up for the boring teacher!
Wow, no Leprechauns? That stinks!
Okay, I must've grown up under a rock. I have NEVER EVER even heard of a leprechaun coming to mess up your stuff. Never! I had to read your post 3 times...and still I didn't know why you were sad and once I read the comments I figured it out. Seriously! NO CLUE!
Wow! I have to say that I never remember any of my teachers doing anything in my class growing up nor do I do anything for St. Patrick's Day in my classroom.
Aww :( Bless him.
Awww...that is sweet of him to participate in the conversation and not be jealous or complain. It does show a good heart and the beginning of a man that will have great character.
At least you went out of your way to do something special today!

I have a son in 5th grade...negligible parental and teacher participation on special days. Its very sad and frustrating on my end.
Careful for what you wish for......They must have done the same thing at Bentley's school-they sang songs, talked about the Leprechan, went on a hunt, etc and after aloooong day I was ready for bed-I crawled in-and Bentley a few minutes later came in to our room-he was afraid the Leprechan was going to get him!!! I guess with all that talking about it at school -he really believed one existed-therefore he slept with us! :)
Surprising all the classes wouldn't participate? At least he didn't seem affected by it. Probably because you did a great job of celebrating it.
On a brighter note, I'm sure you're probably more sad than him about it. :) That's our jobs as moms! Kudos to you though for doing fun stuff at home! No WAY would my kids have drunk green milk! :)
